Message From The Mayor

On behalf of the village board and the citizens of Manhattan, WELCOME. We encourage you to not only visit our website, but also our friendly, growing community. Our village offers a peaceful, relaxing environment that is perfect for raising a family, enjoying retirement and opening a business.

Manhattan is located in the heart of Will County, one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. We are growing at a comfortable, controlled pace which allows our schools, parks, library and fire department ample time to adjust to the needs of our new citizens. This healthy growth rate is also attracting commercial and retail developers as well.

If you are looking to reside in Manhattan, we have virtually every market segment covered. Are you single or a young married couple looking for your first home? We have new affordable townhomes priced from the $140s. Looking for your first single-family home? We have previously owned homes from the $180s and new homes from the $250s. Looking for a move-up home? Manhattan offers a great selection of custom and semi-custom homes from the $300s, all the way up to $800,000. Empty nesters will also be pleased with the selection of ranch and two-story duplex homes offered from the $220s.

For commercial and retail developers, Manhattan has many acres of land zoned for development along our main business corridor, Route 52. A variety of shopping centers are currently under construction which will house new stores, restaurants and service centers. We even have land zoned for light industry on the far south side of town.

With the recent opening of the new Metra train station, commuters can reach the Chicago Loop in just over an hour. For those with jobs in the southern suburbs, the daily drive is convenient due to our close proximity to Interstates 55, 57 & 80. Plus the upcoming completion of the I-355 Tollway just 10 minutes to the north allows access to jobs in the western suburbs as well.

The village board is working together to anticipate the town’s future needs. Plans are approved for future sewer/water infrastructure improvements, a comprehensive traffic study for the entire town is nearing completion and a new village hall is in the beginning stages of development.

As you can see, Manhattan has numerous amenities. Excellent schools (Manhattan School Dist. 114, St. Josephs grade school, and Lincoln-Way Central High School), abundant housing opportunities, easy transportation options, and a safe, peaceful environment to call home at the end of the day, makes for a comfortable life.

Please feel free to call or e-mail us with additional questions.
