Welcome to Manhattan, Illinois!
The Village was incorporated in 1886 and became a home-rule municipality by ways of a referendum held on November 5, 1996. The Village serves an area of approximately six square miles located in Manhattan Township in Will County, Illinois, approximately 4 miles southeast of the City of Joliet. Manhattan is accessible from three major interstate highways. We are 7 miles from I-80, 11 miles from I-57, 12 miles from I-55, and 12 miles from I-355. According to the 2008 special census, the Village has a population of 6,897. The Village operates under the Village President-Trustee form of government. The Village President and six trustees are elected at large. The Village Clerk is also elected at large. The Village President, with the consent of the Village Board, appoints the Village Treasurer. Cub Scout Pancake Breakfast 9/11/10 Wilson Creek Elementary School
On Saturday, 9/11/10, at Wilson Creek School, the Cub Scouts in conjunction with the Manhattan Fire Department and the American Legion will be having a Pancake Breakfast, from 8:00 am till 11: am. The cost is $5.00 Adults, $3.00 for children ages 3-12, and no cost for children up to age 3 with a paying adult. The pancakes are all you can eat and include your choice of juice, milk or coffee.
Manhattan New Home Stimulus Program
In May 2008, the Village of Manhattan anounced its own Economic Stimulus Program for the purchase of a newly constructed home in our communuity. The program consists of rebates in the amount of $5,000 for Single Family homes and $3,500 for town homes or duplexes. As of July 2010, 100 grants remain
2010 Farmer's Market
The Manhattan Chamber of Commerce 2010 Manhattan Farmer’s Market. The market will be held Tuesdays, June 8 through October 12, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
Movies in the Park is Back
Dust off the lawn chairs, grab the children and head over to Central Park. Movies in the Park is back, sponsored by the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce. Movies will begin at dusk and concessions will be available for purchase. Future dates are June 23, July 14, July 28, August 4 and August 18.
